After missing last
season completely (we never made it to the beach even once!)
I was definitely overdue for some sculpting time this year.
The best day seemed to be Saturday after the 4th,
but it was pouring rain at the beach house,
so it was anybody's guess what the beach itself would be like.
As it turns out, it was overcast, but not raining. The biggest
problem was
an ugly wash-up of seaweed that had turned the waves into something
resembling a thick red cabbage soup. Pretty gross.
So job one was clearing a spot
where the weeds wouldn't keep getting "sculpted into"
the sand.
Once that was done things went surprisingly smoothly,
probably because the sun wasn't constantly baking the sand dry.
I seldom know what "pose" is going to emerge from my
efforts;
each new mermaid seems to decide that for me.
But the fact that this one didn't require a face also sped things
along.
Even with the initial time spent "weeding my garden"
I was done in just over four hours.
To get these posted faster, I've only colored one photo this year.
But the lighting was good enough, they don't seem to need it as
much this time.
